Workington Transport Heritage Trust

If you see an old red bus on the streets of Workington, it won't be a leftover from Paint The Town Red, but probably belongs to volunteer members of Workington Transport Heritage Trust who restore and operate these old vehicles for the public's enjoyment - and their own.

But there's more to us than old buses. Over the weekend of 21/22 November, the Trust will, by popular demand, be holding its 8th annual model railway exhibition. This has now become the largest show of its type in the county. Last year this family event attracted a record 1600 visitors. Back again at Moorclose Sports Centre, and open from 10am each day, the show will feature at least 14 working layouts of different shapes and sizes, plus competition displays and modelling demonstrations. There's also lots of traders - with ideas for Christmas presents -  and other stands.

Over half the layouts are new to Workington, but we've also got our old favourites. Thomas the Tank Engine and friends return to us on a layout where youngsters can control the trains themselves. Or, for the more technically minded, there's computer simulators where different types of train can be driven on screen.

The show appeals to all ages, and will especially keep children amused for hours, even the poor deprived ones who have never had the fun of travelling by train!

The venue is close to buses 30, 50 & 51, and has free parking, disabled access and refreshments.
