The Mighty Boof Whitehaven Civic Hall Gig- Feb 16th The Mighty Boof delivered another blinding night yet again. On form Adam Amor kicked the night off with a few songs from his Debut Album ‘A Hidden Hope’ out in March. A short set from Adam with songs such as ‘warhead’ and ‘30 Faces’ got the crowd warmed up nicely. Amor produced his best set to date, short sweet and straight to the point www.myspace.com/adamamor Next up where Dundee based rockers The Brogues, Best band I’ve seen this year, they are Mark, Boon, Sean and Ronny and have been together less than a year but to listen to them you would think they had been at it forever. Tight as, with a sixties sound reminiscent to early Rolling Stones with a hint of country and a lennonesque vocal style all made for a blinding sound, their songs where crowd pleasers and up beat which the crowd got into straight from the off. The Brogues will definitely be singing to huge crowds this summer, songs such as ‘carry on’ madhouse-‘ mr valentine’ and ‘She Gets me up’ where enough to grab my attention, I would have quite happily gone home after The Brogues, I was entertained and happy as. An Ep is due soon, to find out more visit www.myspace.com/thebroguesdundee . The Novocaines from Forest of Dean Gloucestershire served up a high octane performance with rapid beats and riotous guitar riffs, not dissimilar to Six Nation State who played the civic a while back, the crowd responded to the four piece and filled the floor accordingly, I would have preferred more dimension to they’re set but they’re forgiven as the band have been together for less than six months and with that in mind I would like to catch up with them in six months to see what they’re doing. In the meantime go to www.myspace.com/thenovocaines Finally The rascals took to the stage, The three piece Wirral band have been making quite a name as of late with the intense dark Indie sound they produce and with Alex Turner (Artic Monkeys) due to make an album with The Rascals in the summer they already had the venue buzzing before they stepped foot inside. ‘Shades of Embarrasment’ & ‘Ill give you sympathy’ where personal faves from they’re set , the crowd liked them and showed there appreciation throughout the set and jumped up and down at all the right moments. The sound that this three piece emit is one of pure intensity, screaming and haunting guitar riffs and a brilliant vocal make you stop talking and start listening. The Rascals are not your typical Indie band, you wont find any happy go lucky tunes here, the Indie Rock is tinged with a punkish vibe and even a hint of the great Carter USM can be found in some of they’re tunes. Lead Singer Miles looks the part, it’s as if he’s just stepped out of Clothing store ‘Contemporary’ (plug for Maud) and this year looks like it is set to be brilliant for The Rascals, catch them on Soccer AM on Saturday 23rd Feb and go to they’re website www.therascals.co.uk Suspicious Wit is due out on February 18th Buy It! All in All 10/10 to Maud and Couch for another top night from The Mighty Boof, Good turnout- Good Bands = Top Night, can’t wait for the next one.
